A Magistrate Court in Kuje, Abuja, has granted bail to Alex Ikwechegh, a member of the House of Representatives, in the sum of N500,000
Ikwechegh is accused of assaulting Stephen Abuwatseya, a Bolt driver.
According to The Cable, Ikwechegh was arraigned on Wednesday on a three-count charge bordering on assault and threat to life, filed by the Office of the Inspector-General of Police.
The charges are:
1. Assault occasioning harm to Stephen Abuwatseya.
2. Threat to life, contrary to Section 4 (1) of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act, 2015.
3. Assault, contrary to Section 265 of the Penal Code.
During the court session, Ikwechegh pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, noting the severity of the allegations, granted bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum.
