Kelly Osbourne has quit “Fashion Police.” The co-host walked out on Friday, following a week of tension after Giuliana Rancic’s much-discussed and controversial comment about Zendaya’s dreadlocks. HOWEVER, TMZ is reporting that Osbourne’s departure had nothing to do with Rancic’s controversy, and at least one recent Osbourne tweet seem to reflect that.

Here’s the official E! statement on Osbourne’s departure: “Kelly Osbourne is departing E!s ‘Fashion Police’ to pursue other opportunities, and we would like to thank her for her many contributions to the series over the past five years, during which time the show became a hit with viewers.”

According to TMZ, there’s been tension between Osbourne and the show’s producers ever since the E! program returned to the air after the death of longtime host Joan Rivers. The site says Osbourne complained from the start about production matters and that producers were fed up with her. Gossip Cop reached out to reps for both Osbourne and “Fashion Police” for comment, but have yet to hear back.

The timing is interesting, given how closely it comes on the heels of a headline-making “Fashion Police” saga after Rancic was accused of racism for suggesting that Zendaya’s Oscars red carpet appearance, with dreadlocks, made it look as though she might smell like “weed.”

Earlier this week, as the controversy spiked, Osbourne tweeted, “I WILL NOT BE DRAGED INTO THIS! The situation is being rectified like ADULTS by both parties. I hope you can leave it to them & do the same!” She then threatened to quit: “Im giving everyone involved 24 hours to make it right or the world will hear how I really feel. contactually Im not allowed to speak!.. I DID NOT MAKE THE WEED COMENT. I DO NOT CONDONE RACISM SO AS A RESULT OF THIS IM SEREIOULSY QUESTIONONIG STAYING ON THE SHOW!”

But then Rancic apologized to Zendaya, who accepted, and Osbourne made it seem as though everything was resolved, at least as far as that tension was concerned. On Wednesday, she tweeted, “It takes a strong women to apologize & makes a forgiving women even stronger! #ThisTooShallPass.” Her few subsequent tweets had nothing to do with anger over “Fashion Police” (or “Fashion Police” at all, for that matter). Gossip Cop will have updates.
