QPR Midfielder Faurlin Out With an ACL Damage

Queens Park Rangers midfielder Alejandro Faurlin is set for a long spell on the sideline with a knee injury.

The 28-year-old, who spent most part of last season on loan at Italian side Palermo, ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in Wednesday’s 1-0 League Cup defeat at fourth-tier Burton Albion.
It is the third time the Argentine will damage his ACL since joining Rangers in 2009, and could be sidelined for six to nine months.

Coach Harry Redknapp earlier expressed the team’s “sadness and disappointment” over the player’s recurrent “bad luck”, stressing: “We will, of course, do everything we can to support him and help him back on the road to recovery.”

The manager later added in his press conference ahead of Saturday’s home game against Sunderland that “he would like to freshen” things up at Loftus Road, intimating the club will be open to deadline day business.

Faurlin’s current contract runs until July 2015. Redknapp may be forced to look for another midfielder before the transfer window closes.

He started the ‘Hoops’s’ opening English Premier League loss at home to Hull City before coming on as a second-half substitute in the 4-0 defeat by Tottenham Hotspur.

“The knee itself stayed pretty stable, but the scans have since revealed his ACL graft has ruptured. If he has a repair it will be a six to nine month injury, which is absolutely devastating for all concerned,” head of medical services, Peter Florida James, told the club’s official website.
Faurlin originally joined QPR from Argentinian division two club Instituto de Cordoba, and has made 121 league appearances.
