Morris Monye was a member of Peter Obi's Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2023 elections. Peter Obi made him the director of mobilisation of the Obidient Movement in 2024.
Morris Monye @Morris_Monye
RESIGNATION AS DIRECTOR OF MOBILIZATION, OBIDIENT MOVEMENT & STRUCTURE.
Today I stepped down as Director of Mobilization of the Obidient Movement
ITS IMPORTANT YOU READ TO THE END SO NOTHING IS MISCONSTRUED
Almost a year down the line, most of our short term, medium term and long term plans have not been met. I won't be part of optics and no work.
The poor showing at the Anambra election has also made my position untenable,
I and my businesses have also been harassed non-stop by sympathizers and instruments of this government. It's a role that puts a target on
your back. I have had to have kept quiet so as not to discourage anyone or be made not to look like a whiner. But it's taken its toll on me and my family. They can't understand any of this really.
I have spent approximately N40m of personal
funds (My own money) on donating for Obidient
events, mobilization travels across the country,
funding committees, evangelizing about the
movement with calls for mobilization on radio
airways in the rural areas, support local structures on ground. It goes on and on and on. The expenses never ever stops (and they are mostly unplanned and sudden)
All were self raised. By myself. From me
Through me. Let someone else carry that
mantle. Dr. Tanko is privy to some of these. I
have transaction reciepts of almost every
activity done.
No money was given to the Directorate of
Mobilization. There's no bank account even for
the directorate. Infact Mr. Peter Obi has never
asked what we are doing in mobilization.
Nothing of such. No communication. Nothing. I
spent those personal monies because I believe in
the movement as a vehicle for a new Nigeria. I
also don't expect any repayment back from
anyone.
I have been blessed in life with a small fortune
I'm content and a very simple young man. Those
who know me personally know this.
As Director
1. Helped spearhead the registration of
Obidients online in conjunction with the IT
directorate. There were (and still) glitches with the IT team. I hope the IT directorate
fine tunes it and sorts it out. The next leader
of the directorate is to spearhead door to
door mobilization to reach every nook and
cranny of the country. We've laid the
foundation with the online registration. It's
just to execute on ground with volunteers
and get a clean sweep. We have just 3
months left to do this. (I have submitted the
blueprint for that to the Operations team).
2. I helped spearhead the activation of
dormant support groups alongside Dr.
Tanko. Most felt left out. We've given them
an umbrella. We had a support group
convention in Abuja during PO's book
launch in June 2025 and absorbed them
into the movement.
3. I helped structure the movement into 6
regional bodies, providing support from the
centre.
4. I contacted and met all the leaders in each
state. Visited everyone in their backyard to
tell them that we see what they are doing
5. Obidient LG offices in every state. Some
parts of SW Nigeria and Delta state already
have these. The next director is to ensure every other state has this (He or she is to work with the state coordinators on this)
6. I created LG structures (it's still small) for all
states in Nigeria. Abuja being most active
Northeast being least active. The new
leader must expand on this. This will be the
nucleus of our polling unit agents
independent of any party we choose.
7. I created a Research team for the Obidient
Movement where we researched the ills of
the APC govt, highlighted and disseminated
to all Nigerians every bi-weekly via short
videos. I discovered that gap and immediately filled it by getting volunteers onboard and worked on it. They churn out
these materials regularly. Those cute short
videos you see.
8. I created the Obidient Movement Facebook
page and paid a staff to handle it.
Facebook is a huge untapped platform.
made Nana Kazure co-admin also to
monitor things.
9. We kickstarted the Obidient NextGen. It is a
University campus youth network ably
assisted by my secretary, Directorate of
mobilization, Mr. Monday Otene. We
leveraged the goodwill PO has among
young people to harness young voters
10. Supported the Delta state Obidient
Congress
11. Singlehandly raised N2million (very poor
amount) directly to the Anambra
Gubernatorial Candidate's campaign bank
account for polling unit adoption for the
Anambra election to boost our chances in
the poll. (I have all receipts)
12. PVC awareness drive. Paid and sponsored
awareness drive nationwide notably Delta
state, Jigawa, Nassarawa. I sent directly to
the state coordinators on my own dime.
⚫️ Had engagements with tech experts in the
UK to mass produce cheap (very cheap)
body cams from China for polling unit
agents. (I had also scheduled a trip to China
which i have now canceled). The
prerequisite for getting paid as an agent is
to submit those body cams. After our
volunteers have reviewed footage, you get
paid your balance directly to your bank
account all under a week after election. This
would be evidence that you were indeed an
agent. Many will volunteer for free but some
parts of Nigeria most will demand
payments. Great resources would be
expended for this but it is very necessary for
accountability and would put agents on
their toes as thev won't sell out due to them
knowing they are being watched. The
cameras will also be retrieved and used for
election cycle for whoever the Movement endorses (I imagine it will be
⚫️ The next mobilization director MUST follow
up on this. We have not closed this out yet
Mr. Peter Obi has recieved a copy of this
resignation via WhatsApp. He will accept the
resignation.
The National Cooridnator and my state
coordinator have also received a copy. All future
correspondence on the Obidient Movement can
be passed directly to the National Coordinator
Dr. Yunusa Tanko,
It has been a privilege serving Obidients.
ON THE FUTURE FOR ME: I intend traveling the
world and iust have a good time. I will focus
more on my businesses. I just completed my
School of Politics, Policy and Governance (SPPG
leadership) course and will continue with a
business course at Oxford/Cambridge (not made
up my mind vet) next year. I might also seek
elective office (if Electoral reforms sail through,
will. If they don't, I won't bother wasting my time
or money). I will also continue to advise the other
leaders of the movement (They have become
family. We talk everyday) where necessary but I
no longer want to be at the forefront anvmore. I will also keep speaking about a new Nigeria and will always condemn bad governance and the APC. All well-meaning Nigerians must continue this activism
ON The FUTURE OF THE OBIDIENT
MOVEMENT: I will advise that proper political/
operations consultants to coordinate the polling
unit structure and a large media team are
engaged and funded by Mr. Peter Obi himself to
help run the campaign in turbo fashion. There is
no time. I keep screaming it but it's like I've been
screaming into a wall. They have to be on salary/
contract and given a budget complete with
weekly KPIs and also do Monthly Performance
Review (MPRs) to know where and where the
movement is, then he can reward and sanction
appropriately. You can't run a campaign simply
from general goodwill. This is not 2023. The
element of surprise is gone! Also no one can be
held accountable from "general goodwill". They
will work at their own leisure. Afterall it's
goodwill. This has to be a serious business for
him.
Polling unit agents mobilization is key. That must
be happening quick. The lapse was showed
again in Anambra election
Voters registration mobilization is very very
important. This must be done LG by LG. New
voters must be captured. Except for rag-tag
efforts by private individuals (me included) this
has been poor so far.
All (I repeat all) the current directorates are
using their personal funds and it's simply not
sustainable if we want to see results. Not a
single kobo was/is assigned to any of them. Mr.
Obi needs to show more interest in what the
Movement is doing. Obidients outside don't see
or understand that.
Some think we are somehow benefiting from
being directors. I see the comments and they are
very discouraging. Very thankless indeed. Infact
one of the criteria for being director is that you
have to be financially capable to carry that
directorate on your own.
The Key task that must be done for
mobilization directorate is having polling units
agents in all polling units in Nigeria. I have
been shouting this forever. The lapse was
shown in Anambra election. For me, every
other thing is really secondary. It is currently
at 10% completion for now. Dr. Tanko can
confirm this too. We have barely 11 months to complete this. The next director must have his
eyes on that clock. Time is running out.
Occasionally demand from the next director of
mobilization on the situation report on this
Thanks and God bless you all.
