Too much fake love in music industry— Olakira

Singer and producer, Ade Ebenezer, aka Olakira, has bemoaned the preponderance of fake love in the music industry. According to the singer, that’s one of the biggest challenges he faces in the industry.

In an interview with Sunday Scoop, he said, “Some of the challenges I face in my career

are the hostility and fake love between musicians, and the industry’s hostility towards up-and-coming independent acts.”

Speaking on the inspiration behind his Extended Play album titled, 4Play, the singer said, “It is a project with four tracks, and the intention is to arouse the attention of my fans and lovers of good music prior to the release of my debut album. That’s why it is titled ‘4Play’. It is meant to whet the appetite of guests.”

Asked about his music orientation, the singer noted that he was deliberate about making timeless songs. He added, “Every song is carefully written and arranged. I approach every song with the intention of making a classic just like our ‘elders’ such as the late Michael Jackson and Marvin Gaye, whose music is still relevant today. The goal is for the music to be enjoyable and timeless.”

Olakira, who stated that he would like to work with artistes such as Wizkid, Chris Brown, Ariana Grande, Burna Boy and Tiwa Savage, noted that whenever he wanted to make music, he often started with creating beats. He said, “As a singer and songwriter, who doubles as a producer, I start mostly by creating beats from melodies in my head, then I harmonise on the beat before I even start writing the lyrics.”

The singer also noted that working with Davido on his song, In My Maserati, was a dream come true, even as he did not expect that the song would become that big. He said, “For a fact, no one makes efforts without expecting results, but to be honest, I never expected that the song would be such a global hit. Davido is an icon and working with him was a dream come true because I had always loved and admired his work. I almost fainted when he made a video call to me.”

On the highlights of his career, he said, “They include when I got signed to U & I Music in 2018, when I paid for my first house and car, being on the set of the In My Maserati remix video with Davido and Tiwa Savage. Also, I was excited when I got an invite to visit Dubai from the car company, Maserati.”
