Ilaro poly rector explains why institution was shut

The Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro in Ogun State, Olusegun Aluko, has explained why the institution was shut down last Friday following a protest by the students.

Speaking to newsmen on Tuesday, Aluko said the management had to be proactive in ensuring that the protest did not get out of hands as hoodlums had allegedly hijacked the protest by the students.

He said the protest was uncalled for as what the
students were protesting against had existed before he became the Rector last October.

He explained that the school had a handbook, which contained rules and regulations, covering such areas as dress code, examination malpractice, and behaviours in the hostels among others.

The Rector noted that the students were impatient as the
2014/2015 students’ handbook was delivered by the printer on Friday.
However, the Students Union President of the institution, Moshood Saheed, denied this and alleged that the management exhibits high-handedness and harasses the student leaders.
