Sources in Ibadan allege that the Alaafin of Oyo,
Lamidi Adeyem III, has pledged to support President Goodluck Jonathan’s
re-election in order to stave off police investigation against him.
The monarch according to Premium Times, has now filled a suit before
the Federal High Court in Ibadan, requesting a leave to appeal an
earlier judgment which mandated the Inspector General of Police to
investigate him for alleged bomb planting, gun running, unresolved
assassinations among other allegations.
It would be recalled that in an earlier suit on December 15, the
police chief, in a motion of mandamus filed by Jacob Oluokun and
Sulaiman Ajiboye, was compelled by the court in suit No
FHC/IB/CS/54/2014 to investigate the allegations of murder, gun running,
bomb planting and human right abuses against the monarch, as contained
in a petition to the office of the police boss, dated March 18, 2014.
The petition titled: “Unprecedented criminality, flagrant human
rights violations, bomb planting, gun running and unresolved
assassinations in Oyo town, Oyo state” , was delivered to the IGP’s
office on April 17, 2014, but dated March 18, 2014, according to a
reliable source close to the plaintiffs.
Judge Ayo Immanuel, while granting the prayers said investigating the monarch was part of of the police statutory duties.
However, since the ruling was delivered, the police has not complied.
The monarch now wants to appeal the previous court Judgement against
him.It would be recalled that President Goodluck Jonathan over the weekend met with the paramount traditional ruler in continuation of his presidential electioneering campaign in Oyo State.
