Presidential Primaries: APC Will Abide By Internal Democracy, Says Atiku

Atiku AbubakarFormer Vice-President Atiku Abubakar says the All Progressives Congress (APC) will apply the principle of internal democracy in every elective position where the party fields candidates.
This is contained in a statement released to newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday and signed by Malam Garba Shehu, Atiku’s Head of Media and Publicity operations.

According to the statement, Atiku, who said this while receiving some senior party members from Nasarawa State in his residence, said the principle of internal democracy was well entrenched in the APC.

“I have been an ardent advocate of internal democracy in the party system throughout my political career and that is what the APC also stands for.
“I must say that a lot of times I have been misunderstood, but my insistence on free and transparent primaries is not about me.

“It is for thousands of our party members who should be allowed to exercise their most fundamental right of being members of a political party – the right to contest.
“The APC is built on the pivot of internal democracy hence the reason it attracts new membership by the day”, the statement quoted Atiku as saying. (NAN)
