Nigerian athlete Blessing Okagbare won the gold medal in the Women’s
100m race at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland on Monday
evening. She broke Bahamian sprint athlete Debbie Ferguson’s 12-year
record of 10.91 seconds by setting a new one at 10.85 seconds.
25-year-old
Okagbare beat Jamaica's veteran athlete Veronica Campbell-Brown and
Kerron Stewart who won the silver and bronze respectively.
Campbell-Brown finished at 11.02 seconds while Stewart finished at 11.07
seconds.
“A season's best, a win - I'm just happy I was able to pull it off. After 70m it just felt easy.” Okagbare told BBC Sport.
Okagbare is the second African to win the Commonwealth Games Women’s 100m title since Nigerian Mary Onyali-Omagbemi won in 1994.
